KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
UNES is charged with the responsibility of promoting and coordinating income-generating activities of the University of Nairobi. Some of the activities it undertakes are Financial management, Consultancy, University of Nairobi income generating units, Bookstores, Restaurants, and a conference center.

Located on both the Main and the Chiromo Campus of the University of Nairobi. The restaurants are tastefully decorated  boasting a welcoming ambiance.

We present this Service Charter to show and outline our commitment to you, our customer, as a reflection of our dedication to excellence in service delivery.  The charter delineates customer expectations when dealing with any of the UNES units, and describes communication avenues through which you can contact us to comment on our performance and offer suggestions for improvement.

UNES Student Office (G3): Monday to Friday: 9AM – 6 PM, Saturday:   9AM – 12 NOON
UNES Bookstores:    Monday to Friday: 8AM – 6 PM, Saturday:  9AM – 4 PM, Sunday:         11AM – 4 PM
Arziki Restaurants:     Monday to Friday: 7AM – 6 PM, Saturday: 7AM – 4 PM

PPOA skills upgrade on public procurement for UNES staff

UNES Staff underwent Public Procurement Oversight Authority (PPOA) skills upgrade on public procurement and disposal act, 2005 and regulations 2006.

The training was oficially opened by the Managing Director Prof. Julius Ogeng'o, where he emphasised on the need to follow the public procurement act.

The training conducted by Mr. Muriithi of PPOA covered the following areas

KEBS ISO surveillance audit

 UNES is currently underoing ISO re-certification audit between 3rd June to 10th June 2013. The purpose if the audit is to establish continued conformity of the UNES Quality Management System to ISO 9001:2008 standards for purpose of re-certification. All functional units of the organisation will be audited.

ISO Training for Bookstore Staff

UNES Bookstore staff underwent ISO 9001:2008 training on 25th May, 2013 at the University of Nairobi. All Bookstore branches Nairobi, Kisumu, and Mombasa were represented. The training was facilitated by Mr. Mwendwa Kivuva, and Mr. Geofffrey Momanyi. The staff were trained on the mandatory UNES procedures, and the Bookstore procedures and work instructions.

UNES holds end of year staff party

UNES staff on Saturday May 25th 2013 had a colorful party at the Panari Hotel Nairobi. The party was officially opened by the Managing Director Prof. Julius Ogeng'o and attended by staff of all UNES units accross the country. Top performers were awarded for their commendable contribution to the organisation.

Freshmen reporting May 2013

The University of Nairobi first year students reported on 20th May 2013. UNES had stations in all University campuses ready to receive students.

Due to the automation of our processes and auto recognition of the receipting system, we experienced less queues than previous years. We wish to welcome all Freshmen to this great institution

Congratulation message from the MD

UNES congratulates Prof. Jacob Thuranira Kaimenyi on his appointment as the Education Secretary of the Republic of Kenya. Prof. Jacob Kaimenyi was a member of the Board of Directors of UNES, and the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs of the University of Nairobi. We wish him well in his new appointment.

 

UNES gets a new Chairman of the Board of Directors

Dr. Idle Omar Farah, the Director General of National Museums of Kenya, by virtue of being Chairman of the University of Nairobi Council with effect from February 15th 2013, took over from Mr. John Simba as the Chairman of the UNES Board of Directors. Mr. John Simba resigned following his appointment as Chancellor of Pwani University.

UNES hold the Annual Management Team Retreat

UNES Management Team held the Annual at the Lake Naivasha Sopa Resort. The aim of the retreat was to review UNES position from a number of angles and chart the way forward while maintaining team cohesion. The Managing Director Prof. Julius Ogeng'o attended.

The key issues of the retreat were:

  1. Review UNES QMS status , implementation challenges and recertification considerations
  2. UNES Strategic Plan Implementation review
  3. New legal Dispensation, Implications for Public Officers
  4. Performance Contracting (PC)  process, Guidelines and Best practices
  5. UON Strategic Plan- 2013/2014 Overview and its implications to UNES
  6. UNES Business Enterprise Key Success Factors

The team also had a humble opportunity to  reflect  through touring Naivasha and its environs
